Good morning, church.

We are grateful this past Friday night. We had a worship event, a community worship event here, When Men Worship.

We had ladies attend as well, but it was the worship was led by men and different men in our community and different speakers in our community.

And it was just a really blessed time. It was really awesome for our church to be able to host that for the second year, wasn't it, Bobby?

Second year in a row. And so that was a huge blessing. And it was good to see some of you here Friday night with us as well, too.

Last week was a great, great Sunday. We had seven baptisms. That was huge.

And it was just awesome to see how God is moving in the hearts and the lives of people in the life of our church and to be able to celebrate that.

And we had some folks who came and provided a grits bar with shrimp and sausage and ham and bacon and whatever else you put on grits.

Cheese and all that other good stuff. And so it was awesome. It was awesome.

I appreciate Angel and her work as far as that goes, too, getting some things set up on the front end.

But it was just great to see everybody hanging out last week.

I wanted to make one quick announcement here as well, too, before we dismiss our children.

As we talked, Angel didn't mention anything this morning, but we talked a little bit about Vision 21 last week.

I showed you the brochure where we are in our vision. This is April already. It's crazy. It's already April.

But just know that your financial gifts, which are received in the churches here in the front and in the back,

as you give faithfully to the Lord, that helps to be able to fund what we do as a church.

A little bit of a report financially.

Essentially, it seems that every year, January and February and the first part of March are always, you know,

we have the budget and we always, whether it's taxes after Christmas, whatever, our budget's here and the giving's always right here.

God always catches us up. I never get worried.

But here again, it's the same. So we're just, our budget's here and we're about right here.

So we're just praying for God to just continue to move in the hearts and lives of the people.

And so if we can all just get David Drury, since he's Vince Gill now, as I was declared by Mandy last week,

to come off those millions he's sitting on in Nashville, we'd be okay, right?

Just kidding. David's like, what? What did I do?

David, can you even play the guitar? I didn't think so.

If Katie says no, don't ask him to sing either. Okay.

Anyway, so just continue to be faithful as the Lord leads you.

And thank you for your faithfulness.

And again, this is not a broadcast of any worry.

I'm just letting you know where we are, where we are in the spirit of transparency.

And upon that, we want to dismiss our children, kindergarten through fifth grade.

If you guys will follow Miss Debbie and Mr. Joe and Chris.

Oh, Chris is going to go back there too. Awesome.

I love seeing the children go back. Amen.

Genesis chapter 24. We are back in Genesis.

We are going to get through the rest of the book of Genesis this morning.

Not the book of Genesis. I'm sorry.

Yep. And Joseph died and okay, everything else is good. Okay.

Moses was in there somewhere. All right.

Something's like echoing. Maybe it's this.

the moment of this.

Thank you.

it's more so than, than, than, uh, what the text gives us for the Exodus of the children of Israel. Why is it, why is it so? Well, there's a lot of, there's a lot of emphasis put on a bride being found for Isaac, getting the right mate for Isaac, the son of promise. And we got through a few of the verses last week. And we, we, we, we, uh, kind of scaled it all in and dealing with relationships.

And how our relation, how we, how we look at our relationships and how God would have us look at our relationships, um, both in just, uh, our normal everyday relationships, but also in the relationship of marriage, looking for marriage partners as well too. And if you're single today, then maybe one day you will be married, but to know what to look for within that. And we, I gave you one principle two weeks ago. And that's the first of three principles. The first principle was what? Separation. Yes. Separation.

We are called to be separate. We are in the world, but not of the world. Okay. But we are called not to be, uh, unequally yoked. We are to be yoked with believers. And so if you are in a marriage, if you are unequally yoked, Paul gives us that, that, uh, picture of two animals plowing together in opposite directions. And if you are unequally yoked, there will come a point in time after the newness of marriage wears off after the newness of all this.

And you begin to start to do life together where you will find everything is a struggle. Everything is a struggle because you guys are pulling in opposite directions. Even if you are as a believer, decide you're going to marry this unbeliever because they're, they look like Brad Pitt and that's God's gift to you. Okay. And, and you'll, you'll save them one day. You'll save them one day.

Okay. Maybe that's true, but I don't see missionary dating within the scriptures. Okay. There's, it's not within the scriptures. Okay. So what, what happens is that you have this relationship and somewhere along the line, that believer decides at some point, again, the newness wears off and I'm going to start serving the Lord again. I'm going to get serious with the Lord again.

Maybe it's when you have kids. I see this a lot of times with couples. They have children and all of a sudden they, they, we need to go back to church. I remember when we go back. What do you mean back to church? I never went to church. Whoa. And someone puts the brakes on and all of a sudden you start plowing in opposite directions. So there's a problem there. There's a problem. So we have today search for the bride part two, part two. So we started this.

So I'm going to read a huge, huge section this morning at some point, if we ever get into chapter 24. But we talked last week about how Abraham sends this servant, this unnamed servant out to go find a bride for, for this son, for his son and bring it, bring the bride back home. And we said that the unnamed servant, it never really gives us his name, but a lot of commentators believe that this is Eleazar of Damascus. Okay. Very well.

Could be. Okay. But he's unnamed. Why would he be unnamed? You know, as he goes through this entire thing. Well, I think about that. And didn't Jesus say of the Holy Spirit that when, when the spirit of truth has come, he will guide you in all truth and he will not speak for himself, but he will speak what he hears. Okay. So there's no need to have a name for the, for the servant here, because it is not about what he is speaking. Only what the father is sending him to go do. Again, we see this as a picture.

The Holy Spirit says, and so the, the servant goes out, the Holy Spirit goes out. Also in Matthew 22, Jesus makes the, makes the, uh, uh, the, the statement that the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wonderful wedding feast for his son, for his son. And so here you have a father who's trying to have a wedding feast for his son. Um, we talked about the fact that there was arranged marriages back then, much different from then, than today. Today we, we, we approach

things, this whole dating thing, this whole courtship thing differently for them. Commitment came before love. It's, we get it backwards. We get it backwards today. We, we want to love before we're committed. I want to make sure I love. And I, I get this whole thing. I'm not going to throw stones at a bunch of stuff, but let's just get into the scripture and see what it has to say today. Uh, let's start. We left off in verse nine. So verse 10 says, then the servant took 10 of his master's camels and departed.

Taking all sorts of choice gifts from his master. And he arose and went to Mesopotamia to the city of Nahor. And he made the camels kneel down outside the city.

Bedouin community. And there would be tents there. If you go in during the middle of the day you would find no women in the tents. Okay. The women would be out taking care of the livestock. The women would be out taking care of all the crops and everything. And the men would be inside lying on a rug drinking coffee. Okay. They'd be sipping coffee. Okay. And so the women were at every beck and wish of the husband. Some of you guys going well we need the good old days back. You know. We'll move to the Middle East. Okay.

So that's what you really want. Move to the Middle East. But the women did the physical labor. What was more the more the important physical labor. And the mid did the labor of lounging around drinking coffee and making plans and negotiations for the future. Because that's what they thought was most important. Okay. So that that's that's what was taking place. And that's how they saw it.

Now watch this in verse 12. It says and he said okay this is the servant talking again. Oh Lord God of my master Abraham please grant me success today and and show steadfast love to my master Abraham. Okay. This unnamed servant. Okay. At possibly Eleazar Damascus. He would be he would be called the friend of the bridegroom.

The friend of the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom. And that's a term in Judaism that's more reserved or at least we notice it more in the New Testament where John the Baptist calls himself the friend of the bridegroom. He's a friend of Jesus Christ being the bridegroom.

But this servant acts as the friend of the bridegroom. He's the one that's going to be doing the negotiations. Okay. This servant. He's the one that's going to be doing the negotiation for the bride's father slash family.

And we'll get to that in a minute. But we really believe that Bethuel Rachel's father is actually passed away at this point in time. He's not he's not around even though he's mentioned and I'll show you why in a minute. But he he's the guy the servant is the guy he's going to give the dowry.

He's the guy that's going to close the deal on this. He is the friend of the bridegroom. Now remember Abraham he's been gathering up all these ites from his journey for years of years. He got the Canaanites. He's taken some Canaanites in. He's taken some Moabites in. He's taken all these different ites in as he's been going along and traveling along.

And we are certain that not all of them are believers in the God of Israel. All these people but they respect Abraham's faith and the words of his servant prove the point. All right. He doesn't. This is the only way this servant knows how to pray.

And he prays like this. Oh Lord God of my master Abraham shows steadfast love to my master Abraham. I don't know how else to pray but I see I see you working in Abraham's life and the God that he declares I'm praying. I'm praying. This shows deep respect. Deep respect.

Verse 13.

Now it's kind of interesting. We have three meetings at a well that lead to marriage. It's kind of interesting. We're going to have this one that we'll see here. Isaac and Rebecca.

Okay. There's a meeting home where the servant meets Rebecca and it leads to marriage. Genesis 29. Jacob sees Rachel and Exodus 2. Moses sees Zipporah. Okay. At the well. So guys if you're looking for go to the well. Go to the well. Okay. That seems to be where it's happening.

But there's another principle. The second principle I want to give you this. Not just separation. I gave you separation two weeks ago. Not just being equally yoked. Okay.

But the second principle is this. Supplication. You're looking for the right relationship. The right partner in life. Pray. Pray. Pray. Pray. Pray. Pray.

Okay. And you're going to see that this servant is going to pray over and over. He's going to worship God. He's going to pause. He's going to pray. At the end of this chapter it's going to say that Isaac's in the field meditating.

Meditating. And the rabbis believe that to be that Isaac is in the field praying. Okay. He's praying.

He would.

That's what it was meant to be. You know, if you're looking, if you're looking for a great way to break the ice on that first date. How about this? You're on the first date. And before you guys, you get in the car, you get in the car. Hey, before we go out, before we go any further tonight, let's just pray. Let's just pray. How about that? Yeah.

And so that, that tape puts everything on a whole new level. I'm not talking about just praying over the food. No, you do that too. Well, let's just pray tonight before we do anything else. That puts everything on a spiritual level. That sets the tone and lets this person know. And you know what, ladies? Ladies, you have your, your men in your life right now. Did they do that with you when you first, when they first connected with you? I see some elbows. Well, I want to do it now. Okay. Grace, grace, grace.

Bobby, I know why you're laughing. Okay. But that's a wonderful way to start a relationship, isn't it? And so that's, that's probably, but he prays, he prays. And it's the most unusual prayer, probably the most unusual prayer in scripture. And I say that simply because it's answered before he's ever done praying. I love that. Wouldn't that be great if every prayer we ever had was answered, you know, before you can even say, amen. It was like, boom, the answer's already there.

We're trying to teach Caroline how to pray. She can't, she doesn't really talk. She has, she has, you know, probably about what, 20 words maybe she has, maybe a little more than that. Okay. A little more than 20 words. But whenever, whenever we sit down and we say, daddy has, daddy, you know, daddy has a boo-boo on his finger. Okay. Mom says, well, we need to pray for daddy's finger. And Caroline, Caroline goes, amen. I don't know what she's saying, but she knows what she's saying. You know, talk about tongues. There you go. She's all, she's all in it, you know.

But, you know, this, this whole thing, you know, he's going to pray and boom, way before he ever gets to amen. Supplication. Boom. It's answered. And in verse 14, when the service says, please let the young woman whom I shall say, you know, please let down your jar that I may drink. And who, and who shall say drink? You know, he's asked, he's being very specific in how he's praying, what he's, what he's saying. But he says, he says, let her be the one that you have appointed for your servant, Isaac.

That you have appointed. Okay. A better rendition to this would be, let her be the, let the person that I meet be the one that you have chosen. You have chosen. Let her be the one. First off, you go, I'm involved in this. He's saying, I'm involved in this, but I'm trusting that you, that, that you're, you've already made a choice. And I want to know who this, who this choice is. By this, he says, I shall know that you have shown steadfast love to my master.

So it's all about the will of God. You know, I love this. I love this. It's all about the Lord. You've made a choice, God. I'm involved, but show me who it is.

You've made a choice. Show me who it is. And you're going to discover that she's, she's really beautiful and all that, but that's not what he prays for.

It's not what he prays for, you know, but he would be on the lookout for a good looking woman. Wouldn't he? I mean, why? He wouldn't want Isaac to hate him for the rest of his life.

Look what I brought back, Isaac. Holy cow. Get, get back in the caravan. This ain't going to work. This ain't going to work. Okay.

But I find it interesting in his prayer. He doesn't say that. He doesn't say any of that. He doesn't say, dear Lord, please, if you could just, please let her be five foot eight.

Let her have long, beautiful auburn hair. Let her, let her have a, a degree in fashion. Let her have all these portfolios, a stock portfolio that's worth something.

And please, Jesus, let her sing like Whitney Houston. Please, Lord. Amen. He doesn't say any of that, any of that.

Though she does have some assets, she is beautiful. It's a spiritual prayer. And because he keeps it on a spiritual level, guess what?

God honors that. God honors that. Also remember, it's, this is, this is, in this text, he's saying, he's saying, I'm giving, I'm being very specific in what I'm asking for.

And it's not just, God, God, let this, let the woman who comes and gives me water. That would just be an extension of hospitality. Okay.

No, no, no, no. Not just gives me water. Okay. But she's going to offer to give me water and my camels.

Now, how many camels did he have? Come on.

10, 10 camels. You know how much water camels drink? Legendary.

Okay. Okay. It's legendary. This is no, this is.

her water jar on her shoulder. The young woman was very attractive in appearance, a maiden whom no man had known. She went down to the spring, filled her jar and, and came, and came up. Then the servant ran to meet her. Please give me a drink of water from your jar. Okay. Now I'm not going to go into this real, real deep, but before I move on, she is beautiful. Okay. The Puritans,

had a thing that said that you, they used to think that beauty was of the devil. That if you had physical beauty, that was of the devil. And so, uh, they, they, they used to have this mindset. So don't look for anybody that's beautiful. You know, God made us. There are certain characteristics that attract us to someone else. I love your eyes. I used to love that about her eyes were so beautiful when I first met her. You know, I had just, there were certain things, but they're still beautiful. I don't mean they're not. Yeah.

When I first met her. Yeah. They've changed now. Yeah. Your, your glasses have gotten thicker. I just see them better now. Yeah. Just kidding. How about mine? Yeah. I didn't used to wear glasses. I know. I know. My hair. Yeah.

Yeah. We digress. Is this being broadcast? But listen, there was an initial attraction. That's okay. That's okay. All right. There needs to be that. You know, there are certain, there are certain things, but anyway, you, you wouldn't want, I hear again, him to bring somebody who wasn't attractive to woman to his master.

And this is a 450 mile trip. One way, one way, almost a thousand miles round trip. It's going to take several months to get there. Okay. This is no, this is no easy. I can, you know, so he's going to make this long journey to bring this young lady back. And, and, you know, and again, he doesn't want to come back.

She gets off the camel and Isaac goes, serious. That's it. Cause at, by this time, Eliezer has been gone. He's been gone. So I'm, you know, uh, Abraham, I'd seen him out, didn't consult with Isaac, but Isaac notices that the head of his household is gone. So, you know, there's been some, where's Eliezer? I haven't seen him for weeks. Well, son, I sent him to go get you a wife. Really? That's why Isaac is out in the field praying.

That's why at the end of the chapter, he's out in the field praying. He's going to be back any day. Lord, please let it be Whitney. You know, whatever, you know, you know, I, I've got, I need, I need this woman to be this, this, this, but keep it on anyway.

But again, you know, all these things and her beauty is mentioned, but it's all done on a spiritual level and he's praying for just the right one. I love that he's praying. The servants praying. I love that Isaac would, would, uh, be out in the field praying.

And most commentators believe that this servant, he would get up each and every morning that as would be his custom. And he would give God the glory before the journey. Then the next day starts giving God glory, praying to God, get up the next morning, giving God glory, giving you the trip, giving God glory, giving you the trip over and over and over and over again.

He's committing his journey all the way, praying all the way to this encounter to the well. And by the way, you know what? I told you that the first move on a first date is to have a time of prayer to set the stage. That's great. If that's you do that. But if that's you, don't stop there. Keep praying all the way through your relationship. Don't let it stop there. Well, I'm married now.

Don't want it to be so spiritual now, do I? I don't know. Read the word. Tell me what it says. You tell me what it says. But Abraham is holding the servant to this. This is no easy task. And the servant's taking it serious. He's planning for success, though. We'll get back to that in a minute. But he's saying that this is going to work. I'm trusting you, God. He's keeping things on a spiritual level. And the servant, it says, ran to meet her and said, okay, okay, Lord,

please, let's see all the women. They're coming out. They're coming out in droves to get the water. Let one of these chicks be it. You know, he didn't say chicks. I'm sure of that. But you know, but let her be, let the one that I say, you know, give me a drink. She's going to say, you know what? I'm not only give you a drink. I'll water all 10 of your camels.

This undertaking shows the kind of character that what he's asking for, the kind of character that he's looking for, for his servant Isaac, a woman of integrity, a woman who is industrious, a woman who is submissive, a woman who is a servant. . . .

. . . I see a need. I'm going to meet a need. And so, he sees this girl. Wow, could this be the one? I wonder if this is the one. I think I'm going to go test it. I'm going to go try it. Verse 17, Then the servant ran to meet her and said, Please give me a little drink of water from your jar. She said, Drink, my lord. And she quickly let her jar down upon her hand and gave him a drink. And when she had finished giving him a drink, she said,

I will draw water for your camels also until they have finished drinking. What's he thinking at this point? Yes! Yes! That's just what I said. Everything's coming out. So, she quickly emptied her jar into the trough and ran again to the well to draw water. And she drew for all the camels. And the man gazed at her in silence to learn whether the Lord had prospered his journey or not. This is exactly what . . . .

. . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

weighing 10 gold shekels.

Girls, that would be the equivalent of

he's coming up to the well,

she does all this stuff

and he whips out of his pocket

his massive engagement ring.

Okay, that's what's happening right then.

This big old rock.

That's what's taking place.

Verse 23, it said,

Please tell me whose daughter you are.

Is there room in your father's house

for us to spend the night?

She said to him,

I am the daughter of Bethuel, son of Milcah,

whom she bore to Nahor.

She added,

We have plenty of both straw and fodder

and room to spend the night.

So she probably saw the loot coming

and thought,

Oh, she sees all this.

Can I get a witness?

Okay.

All right.

No, I'm stretching things.

All right.

Verse 26,

The man bowed his head

and worshiped the Lord

and said,

Blessed be the Lord,

God of my master Abraham,

who has not forsaken his steadfast love

and his faithfulness towards my master.

As for me,

the Lord has led me

in the way

to the house

of my master's kinsmen.

Now, verse 27

is probably one of the most important verses here.

It tells us,

this verse tells us

how God leads humans,

human beings,

all of us in scripture.

It says,

As for me,

the Lord has led me in the way.

Who does God lead?

People who are in the way.

Who are in the way.

People who get in the way.

People who get in his way.

Get in his way.

And when they're in,

when you are in the way of God,

God will lead you.

God will lead you.

It's not like the servant said,

Well, I hear the task,

Abraham,

I'm just going to go to my tent.

I'm going to pray really hard

and God's going to bring me somebody.

He's going to fulfill all this stuff.

No, no, no.

He got up and he's caravaning 450 miles,

making this long journey on the way.

And God led him on that way.

And a principle in that is,

listen,

God's providence is seen

and revealed in man's diligence and obedience.

God's providence is seen

in man's diligence and obedience.

So for us,

be diligent.

Be diligent.

Be obedient.

Get in the way.

Get in the way.

You take the first step.

Many of us want to know

what steps five, six, and seven are

in our lives and in our relationships.

And God's saying,

No, I'm telling you

to just take this next step.

I tell you guys this all the time.

Just do the next right thing.

Just do the next right thing.

Otherwise, things get overwhelming.

Overwhelming.

I mean, Psalm 37 says,

The steps of a good man

are ordered by the Lord, right?

Taking those steps.

But you've got to take that first step.

I mean, when you first learned

to ride a bicycle,

what did you do?

You just read about it

and you just went out and did it?

You watched a YouTube video?

No.

You had to get out there.

You had to get your balance.

You had to do, you know,

all that stuff.

And if you were a father of somebody,

you'd know you had to run

17 miles behind your kid.

A path marked out for your life.

The Lord will mark out the path.

Think in the New Testament.

In the New Testament, when the Lord told Philip to go to Gaza.

Go to Gaza.

What's Gaza?

It's the desert.

Philip, I just want you to go to Gaza.

He didn't tell him what he was going to do there or anything.

He just says, go to Gaza.

So he went.

And because he did that, step one, he took the first step.

God says, now it's time for the second step.

I want you to join yourself to that chariot over there.

There's going to be a guy over there.

He's going to be reading the scroll of Isaiah 53.

He doesn't understand it.

You're going to lead him to Jesus.

You're going to lead him to Jesus.

But if he wouldn't have been obedient with step one, he would have never got to two, then three, then baptized, then the next step, celebration, all that stuff.

Be diligent, taking those next steps.

Okay.

Verse 28.

Isn't that where I left off?

Then the young woman ran and told her mother's household about these things.

Rebecca had a brother whose name was Laban.

Laban ran out toward the man to the spring.

As soon as he saw the ring and the bracelets on his sister's arms and heard the words of Rebecca, his sister, thus the man spoke to me.

And he went to the man.

And behold, he was standing by the camels at the spring.

You know, Rebecca may not have known what the ring and the bracelets and all that stuff was about.

Laban sure knew about it.

This is engagement stuff.

He knew.

He knew.

And it says she runs and tells her mother's household.

Okay.

Why not her father's?

Again, a lot of commentators, a lot of theologians believe that Beth Yule has passed away at this time.

We don't know for sure.

But it functions.

It's in the scriptures.

It functions as if he's passed away because the father is not carrying out any of the transactions on behalf of the daughter.

But we see Laban going, hmm, Laban's eye on this thing, you know, this is good.

This guy represents a wealthy patron.

I think I'm going to keep my eyes.

I say, watch out for Laban.

I say, watch out for Laban.

And we'll see that later on.

Verse 31.

He said, come in.

Oh, bless of the Lord.

Why do you stand outside?

For I have prepared the house and a place for the camels.

So the man came into the house and unharnessed the camels and gave straw and fodder to the camels.

And there was water to wash his feet and the feet of the men who were with him.

Let's read down to 34.

Then food was set before him to eat.

But he said, I will not eat until I have said what I have to say.

And he said, speak on.

He said, I am Abraham's servant.

First time he's making this known, who he is.

Now, again, this is what you find.

This nameless servant, he's going to start telling of the father's house.

He's going to start telling of the father's house.

Again, if it's Eleazar of Damascus, we know his name means comforter.

We know his name means helper.

All right.

And in this, and he's telling of the father's riches of this, of his house, first to the family and then to Rebecca.

Again, this is a type, a foreshadowing of the Holy Spirit, telling of the riches of the father's house.

We'll get to that in a second.

Thirty-five.

The Lord has greatly blessed my master, and he has become great.

He has given him flocks and herds and silver and gold and male servants and female servants and camels and donkeys.

And Sarah, my master's wife, bore a son to my master when she was old.

And to him he gave all that he had.

My master made me swear, saying, You shall not take a wife from my son from the daughters of the Canaanites in the land I dwell.

But you shall go to my father's house, to a clan, and take a wife from my son.

I said to my master, Perhaps the woman will not follow me.

But he said, The Lord, before whom I have walked, will send his angel with you and prosper your way.

You shall take a wife from my son from the clan of my father's house.

That's exactly what's taking place here.

Then you will be free from my oath.

Please give me a little drink of water from your jar to drink. And whom will say to me, drink and I will draw for your camels. Let her be the woman whom the Lord has appointed for my master's son. Before I finish speaking in my heart. Again, he's not saying this prayer out loud. He's saying this prayer to himself. Anyone here ever prayed in their heart? Yeah, you know what this is going about. Yeah, absolutely. In my heart, behold, Rebecca came out with her jar on her shoulder and she went down to the spring.

Spring and drew water and I said to her, Please let me drink. She quickly let down her jar from her shoulder and said, Drink and I will give your camels drink also. So I drank and she gave to the camels drink also. Then I asked her, Whose daughter are you? She said, The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milka bore to him. So I put the I put the ring on her nose. So there you go, girls. You can wear nose rings. It says there. Yeah, there you go.

Those of you with teenage teenage daughters. There you go. Nose rings. There you go. Jenna can get one next week. All right, Steve? There you go.

I put a ring on her nose and bracelets on her arms. Then I bowed my head and worshiped the Lord and blessed and bless the Lord.

The God of my master Abraham, who had led me by the right way to take the daughter of my master's kinsman for his son.

Now then, if you are going to show steadfast love and faithfulness to my master, tell me.

And if not, tell me that I may turn to the right hand or to the left.

Then Laban and Bethuel answered. It says Bethuel, but you'll see here in a second.

I think that's on behalf of the family. Answered and said, The thing that has come from the Lord, we cannot speak to you, good or bad.

Behold, Rebekah is before you. Take her and go, and let her be the wife of your master's son, as the Lord has spoken.

Let's stop at 57.

When Abraham's servant heard their words, he bowed himself to the earth before the Lord, and the servant brought out jewelry.

Again, this is the dowry stuff.

And silver, and of gold, and of garments, and gave them to Rebekah.

He also gave her brother and to the mother.

See, there's nothing in the father mentioned there.

Brother and mother, costly ornaments.

And he and the men who were with him ate and drank and spent the night.

When they rose in the morning, he said, Send me away to my master.

Her brother and mother said, Let the young woman remain with us a while, at least ten days.

After that, she may go.

But he said to them, Do not delay me, since the Lord has prospered my way.

Send me away, that I may go to my master.

And they said, Let us call the young woman and ask her.

So, interesting.

It's a prearranged marriage.

We understand that.

It's prearranged.

But there's also, there's a mixture.

Her choice is involved as well, too.

You know, she has a say-so in this.

So, it's not just, they're giving her a choice.

And she has to give an answer to the question.

And she does that in verse 58.

And they called Rebekah and said to her, Will you go with this man?

And she said, I will go.

So, they sent away Rebekah, their sister, and her nurse.

This is probably the woman who's raised her.

The nurse has been with her since birth.

And Abraham's servant and his men.

And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, Our sister, may you become thousands of ten thousands, which will absolutely happen.

And may your offspring possess the gate of those who hate him.

Friends, it has been recognized throughout the Christian church that Isaac is a type of Christ.

Okay?

He's a foreshadowing of Christ.

Isaac points to Christ.

And also, you know, this whole story is a little bit of a complicated story.

Because not only Isaac, but also that ram, remember when the ram that was caught in the thicket, the ram points to Christ as well, to that sacrifice.

All right?

But even more, it has been recognized that Rebekah is a type of the church.

All right?

Rebekah is a picture of the church before the church.

That Rebekah's response here is exactly the response of believers.

The believers.

And it's the response of saying, I will go.

I will go.

That's the response of the church today.

I will go.

It's the eagerness of the obedience.

Lord, my yes is on the table. Whatever you say, I will go. I will go. That's the response of the faithful, obedient church today. Is it not? So we see the foreshadowing of the church, the type of the church through Rebecca. Now, there's the third key in the relationship that I wanted to give you. As the servant sits out and he was engaging in conversation and thus afterwards, they're making plans for marriage. And maybe that's happening. Listen, what he's doing is,

he's planning for success and not failure. That's key. Planning for success and not failure. He wants to do the right thing. He wants God to show him. And he wants every step of the way, he sees God's hand in it. He says yes. And then he worships the Lord. And then he prays. And he worships the Lord. And he prays. But he's planning for success, not failure. Along and along. He knows the God of my master Abraham is going to lead me. And you know, if you're entering in a relationship or you're in a relationship and

you think you're getting to the point of close to marriage, listen, plan for success. Plan for success. Okay. Don't even let the vocabulary of failure enter into your relationship. You shouldn't, you know, you shouldn't even, you know, Jill and I made a promise. We had some hard years in the first part of our marriage as many married couples do when you're trying to figure some things out. But we said early on, early on, we would never

never let the word divorce be a part of our vocabulary. We just won't do it. Just won't do it. Uh, we're not, we're not going down the path. We were playing there. We were planning for success. That doesn't mean that everything was apple pie and hunky dory and Disney, but there was no back door, no back door. We are planning for success. And so that, that's what, that's what they were doing. I want to share with you a quick

letter, um, that I found years ago, Dr. James Dobson for focus on the family. Um, he found this and I read this letter sometimes in some of the, uh, the weddings that I do, but, um, he found a letter that his dad wrote to, he was much older in life when he found this. His dad wrote to his mom. Okay. Before they were, before they were married. And he wrote this letter to her. And I think this is appropriate for what we're,

uh, talking about this morning, but the letter, the letter that his dad wrote to his mom said this, he says, I want you to know and be fully aware

concerning the marriage covenant that we are about to enter. I've been taught from my mother's knee and in harmony with the word of God that marriage

marriage vows are unviable and that by entering into them, I'm binding myself absolutely. And for life, I'm not naive concerning this. On the contrary, I'm

fully, fully aware that mutual incompatibility or other unforeseen circumstances could result in extreme mental suffering. I always find that it's, uh, yes, yes. Okay. Yeah. If such becomes

the case, I am resolved for my part to accept it as a consequence of the commitment that I'm making, that we are

making now and to bear it if need be to the end of our lives together. I have loved you dearly as my

sweetheart and I will love you as my wife, but above everything else, I love you with a Christian love that

demands. We will never act in such a way as to hinder our prospects from entering into heaven, which is the

supreme desire of both of our lives. That's just a classy way of saying I love you and I'm committed. I'm in it for the long

run. How many, how many folks in here are currently married right now? Currently married. Okay. And how many of you that have

currently raised your hands, you don't have to raise your hands on this one, uh, experience, uh, stress in that relationship? Yeah. There has been

stress. Yeah. I saw that, David. Yeah. Yeah. I said not to raise your hand. David goes like this.

You're in trouble. You're going to experience it. You're going to experience it. Life is going to

throw it at you. We're, we're, we're dealing with the relationship in here, but you have to plan for

success, not failure. We're, we're going to make it. We're going one way. I don't know how some,

sometimes we've said that to each other. I don't know how we're going to get

you.

and do, you know what, it's fresh and new right now, do it right, do it right this time,

do it right this time, God is the God of grace, I'm not going to get, I'm not going to get legalistic

on you, well, gee, the problem is, no, no, if, if this is where you are in life, let, I can't

unscramble eggs, okay, I'm not the Holy Spirit, but from this day forward, I can encourage you,

do the next right thing, do the next right thing, plan for success, okay, I said we're going to get

through this, we got to get through this, verse 61, is that where we left off, then Rebekah and her

young women arose and rode on the camels and followed the man, thus the servant took Rebekah and went

his way, 450 miles on a camel, isn't that romantic women, I got all this jewelry, by then, by then

the newness of all that jewelry will wear off on it, 450 miles, but you know what, I started thinking

about this, think about, here's Rebekah, she's riding with this servant, and all the questions

she would have for him as they ride back, 450 miles on camels, what's he like, tell me what

he's like, is he handsome, is he nice, is he, you know, is he kind to his parents, you know,

what's he look like, tell me again about his family, tell me about that miraculous birth again,

man, oh, I love that story, can you tell it to me again, and all the conversations that

would describe him, and the servant is revealing about the son to the bride, okay, and the closer

and the closer that they get, I can just see, she was going, you know what, I can't wait to

meet him, you know, you told me all these things, the servant tells him about Ishmael and all

the rivalry, and how he was, and how Isaac was, man, he was almost sacrificed on Mount

Moriah, and all this stuff, and so she couldn't wait to see him by the time they get there,

the expectation, isn't that the way the Holy Spirit reveals more and more of the Father's

love in the kingdom of heaven, the closer and closer we walk with Jesus, the revelation

that the Holy Spirit brings, and we go, I can't wait to see him face to face, I can't wait

to see him, can you see the picture that God's given us in revelation of the anticipation

as the servant tells us about Jesus, reveals Jesus to us, and the more we find out about

him, we say, I can't wait to meet my bridegroom, and there will be a day when he presents us

to the Father clean, unblemished, in all of his glory, and the glory that he has bestowed

upon us, this is the picture that Genesis is showing us, church, don't just read these

scriptures and just, oh, on the camels, it's bigger than that, it's bigger than, it's better

than that, now Isaac had returned from Bir Lahaya Royal and was dwelling in Negev, and Isaac

went out to meditate in the field toward the evening and lifted up his eyes and saw, and

behold, there were camels coming, you know he's had a conversation with his dad about

the servant's gone, he's going to be coming back, and sometime in the next few weeks he's

going to have your wife, he's out, the Jewish targums tell us that he's out praying in the

field, he's praying in the field, he's meditating in solitude with the Lord, he's out there, you

don't, you want to know, Eliezer's bringing him back, you want to know what he, I've told

you for 450 miles what he's like, there he is, he's in the field, petitioning the Lord,

God, please let her love you, please, because understand, this young man is still going through

a broken heart, why, he's lost his mom, don't get so far away from that, he was the child

of promise, his mother loved him greatly.

See the camel's coming, I see the camel's coming. And Rebecca lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she dismounted from the camel. And she said,

said to the servant, Who is that man walking in the field to meet us? The servant said, It is my master. So she took her veil and covered herself. From that moment, right there, they're in the betrothal period immediately. Boom. The only thing that can now separate them is legal divorce in this time period. And they vowed to be, there's going to be no physical contact, no sensual contact, no sexual contact, none of the

that stuff, none of that stuff, none of this, we're just going to make out for a while until we figure, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. They don't do any of that. No. It's pure. It's a purity that we just don't know in today's society, to be honest with you. We want to play tonsil hockey all, never mind.

Man. There's a purity that's established. It's established. She immediately, she immediately knows what's going on. She covers herself. She covers herself.

And the servant told Isaac all the things that he had done. So the servant's going to go over that story, how he found Rebecca, how she came to, all those things that we just read about.

Then Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah, his mother, and took Rebecca, and she became his wife, and he loved her. And so Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

Again, notice that, friends. Commitment came first. Commitment came first. Love followed. Love followed.

I think it was Mark Twain that used to always say, it's a good thing to go into marriage with your eyes wide open, and then keep them halfway shut through the rest of marriage.

You figure that out as you go. But, you know, going in fully, fully know what's going on, okay? Fully prepared. And then once you make that commitment, it's a commitment.

It is a commitment. And, you know, let the engine be the will. Let the feelings and the emotions and all that goo-goo stuff be the caboose.

Let the engine be the will. Man, we're in this thing. It's easy to muster up feelings and emotions and all this other stuff.

And if we're led by that, man, we're just going to have a topsy-turvy relationship, and we'll both be frustrated.

But when you commit, and you commit to go even through difficult times, and again, you go, I don't know how we're going to make it,

but we're going to do this. We're going to do this thing.

You keep working through willingly, doing the right thing.

And if you keep willingly working through and pushing through, I promise you, what you always find is that feelings will follow.

Sometimes it might take a little while, but the feelings will follow.

And the restorative hand of the Lord comes about and just washes over you.

It's just so awesome.

But first, it was an act of will, okay, that they both entered in this covenant, and then they loved each other, it says.

And this is how good God is.

This is how good God is.

As the servant is obedient in all this promise that he made to Abraham, as he goes through this and he finds the right woman,

and she's faithful, and she says, yes, I will go, showing us a picture of the obedient church, I will go.

All of this thing, all of this stuff, Isaac's over here praying, praying for his bride to come, waiting for the day for the camels.

Here are the camels.

And in all of this, in all of this, it's almost forgotten.

It's almost forgotten, but it's almost swept under the rug.

But this is how good God is, because it says,

And Isaac's heart was comforted.

Comforted.

coming. I never saw coming. Because I got the focus off of me. I understand we all get, we all have hurts, and we all have things that we go through. But sometimes we allow those things to be the thing that drive our relationship, our relationships, and drive how we treat each other. Isaac's heart was comforted. So today I,

I give you three things in your relationships, make sure that, make sure that you are equally yoked. Make sure that you are equally yoked. Supplication. Man, pray. Pray. Pray for your relationships. Pray over your relationships. Then continue to pray. And plan for success. Plan for success. You're some good looking folks out here. You guys got some good relationships. Let's keep it up. Let's keep it up and bring glory and honor to the Lord. Amen? I wanted to get through all the

24 because we have, we have, we have a triumphal entry that we're going to talk about next, next Sunday. And we have Easter Sunday celebration. Resurrection Sunday. The following. Next two I'll do a, we'll take a break from Genesis. I know the church is going to break out in revival here this morning. But we have a break from Genesis to honor the Lord in a time of celebration. We normally celebrate communion on the first Sunday, but I really wanted the focus to be communion on Easter Sunday.

So as the worship team comes up this morning and we close out. Just think about your relationships. Think about the relationships that you have and think about how you treat them. And maybe there's some restoring that needs to take place in some of the current ones. And maybe there's some things about some past relationships you just, you've been carrying around like luggage and you need to get rid of that mess right now.

So let that be the day of just setting some things aside, setting some things aside. Grace. Grace.

Grace. Yes, Jesus. Let's do this. Let's do this.

Let's stand up for a second.

And right where you are, I just feel compelled by the Lord. We're going to do this.

Right where you are, you don't have to come up and take a microphone, but I want you to speak nice and loud over just the acoustic guitar here.

It's not too loud.

But the relationship that you have, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me one thing that you are blessed by the relationship that you have with your significant other right now in your, in your life.

Come on.

Huh?

Yeah, come on.

What do you got?

Companion.

All right.

Trust.

Friendship.

Equally yoked.

Amen.

Come on.

Restoration.

That's right, David.

Amen.

Amen.

That's a, that's a testimony in and of itself.

Amen.

Come on.

What else?

Encouragement.

Somebody said over here?

Patience.

Who said that?

Joe?

Is that you or Casey that has it?

Casey's like, don't ask.

Praise the Lord for patience.

Yeah.

Amen.

Amen.

Come on.

I'm sorry?

Commitment.

Amen.

Amen, Miss Polly.

Amen.

See what?

Hinges you in Christ.

Amen.

I'm sorry.

Being adored.

Honesty.

Forgiveness.

I saw your eyes roll too when you said that.

Amen.

Amen.

Yes, sir.

Share your life.

Amen.

Editor.

Wow.

Yes.

Yes.

That's a good thing.

Strength.

Amen.

Amen.

Laughter.

Amen.

Say what?

Security.

There you go. Now we're kids. Somebody said lover. Now we say kids. Okay. Now we're going. Stop. Yeah. Okay. I think we need to draw this thing to an end. Yeah. For some of these who are single right now, break out into a fit of jealousy. Yeah. Yeah. Amen. May God get the glory. May God get all glory for our

relationships. Whether they be in the state of singleness or in the state of marriage. May God get the glory for all these. Amen. And may we, may we, as a church, continue to have the mindset of Rebecca. I will go. I will go. I will go. That's a whole other sermon. I'll stop. I'll stop. Father, we just thank you. We thank you so very much for just your incredible love for us.

Lord. We thank you, Lord, for calling us your bride. We thank you for the beautiful bridegroom that is found in none other but Jesus Christ. And we thank you, Lord, that he has made a way for us to be part of the wedding feast one day.

Amen. It's in his name we give thanks and praise. Amen.

Amen.

Amen.

Amen.

Amen.
